| For many people, being an enthusiast of older and nostalgic vehicles and attending the odd bus rally is
enough. But for others, well, they need to "go the whole hog" and buy a full size bus or coach, and in doing
so often learn the hard way that finding storage for these large vehicles is a difficult matter.
Unfortunately many vehicles have been sold on, and some even have gone for scrap when storage cannot be found. Many vehicles live in farm accommodation, some lucky enough to have accommodation in
barns - others not so lucky stand outside to face the elements.
With so many disasters facing farmers including BSE and Foot and Mouth it had become clear that another form of accommodation
and a new way forward was needed. The preservation world,
especially preserving buses, does not always work
'together' with many vehicles started on, and not finished.
Larger groups as well as individuals have taken this piecemeal
and fragmented approach.
In 1998 Ashley formed a small interest group known as
Preservabus and in 1999 Wheels hosted the Preservabus web-pages on its web site, telling its own story of vehicle preservation. Now Preservabus through its new parent body
"The Wheels Museum of Transport Heritage" has decided to take the responsible step of
looking towards taking on its own preserved vehicle facility, and in doing so can offer services to vehicle owners, transport enthusiasts, to tourism and the local community. A facility which will cover a wide spectrum of interest from exhibits of full size railway items, miniature and model trains, buses and coaches, cars cycles, vans and trucks, many with a local flavour, but all representing the British Transport scene over the years.
The difference with Preservabus is our managed approach to our
hobby because we are all hoping for an attraction, and
relying on the support of the general public. The
scrapyard image of transport museums will no longer suffice.
Whether you are only interested from a distance and just want to show your support
either by joining or giving a donation; whether you are a vehicle owner and need
storage; or whether you would like to get "stuck-in" and help with our exciting museum project,
we would like you to join us.
Everyone who becomes a member helps,. Whether you want to clean and polish, use the spanners, do a bit of bodywork - you can help. Even if you
don't want to get your hands dirty, you can push leaflets, fundraise, help at the entrance desk, be a guide or work in the information office, cafe or shop. Volunteer help is always needed on most weekends and all Bank Holidays. Please join us and give us your support.
