Models for the mantelpiece, display cabinet,
or to complement an 'O' gauge model railway
(1:50 scale - will match Corgi Classic range).
Models of Midland Red buses have been somewhat neglected over the years, possibly because the demand would not reach large mass-producers' expectations. But now, the unique vehicle designs of BMMO (Birmingham & Midland Motor Omnibus Company) and their innovative engineering developments are at last brought to the world of models in 1:50 scale to create this exciting new collection.
These exclusive Midland Red models are produced strictly in Limited Editions and are available only by special order. We are continuing to receive a steady stream of orders, so an early order is advisable. Most model types are to be available in both KIT form and READY BUILT.
Where appropriate, models are to be supplied with a choice of registration and fleet numbers and a choice of destinations. Kits come with basic instructions, suggested paint details and transfers. Ready Built models are ready for display, but are supplied with registration, fleet numbers and destinations separately for you to add according to your choice, and additionally have a certificate and a vehicle-type history sheet.
We are proud to announce that our models come with a specially-written foreword by Midland Red's experimental officer Mr R.E.S. Richards, who was closely involved in the research and development of many BMMO vehicles from the 1950s including the design and testing of the CM6T! He has also assisted in the development of our range of models which has helped to ensure their accuracy.
In keeping with BMMO engineering excellence, these models are crafted to a very high standard. Even the transfers are the most accurate BMMO/Midland Red logos/typeface yet to be seen on 1:50 scale models - compare the artwork on a photograph of a Midland Red vehicle with that of a commercially available model and you will see what we mean!
Midland Red operated a small number of vehicles produced by mainstream bus manufacturers - only models of these vehicles are currently available from the commercial model makers. Until now the REAL Midland Red gems have never been available in 1:50 scale. This is probably because these designs were in the main exclusive to Midland Red, and so can not be sold in a wide range of liveries.
Due to the popularity of the famous D9,
especially since we continue to operate a real D9 in our classic bus fleet, we
have decided to consider a re-run of this model which sold out on its previous
run even before it was manufactured.
If you are interested in ordering one of these planned models, please let us
know by sending us an email. The model will be made to represent our
D9 fleet number 5415 and will carry adverts for the Warley Model Railway Show at
the NEC which the D9 has carried on the lead up to the show for the last two
years.
The next model to be produced as part of the Midland Red Collection will be the S6 model. Orders for this model are now resumed. There will be two example fleet numbers issued (from different garages) and with transfers provided showing different destination blinds. The S6 model was the first production single decker bus produced after World War Two, and one of the first underfloor engined designs. Its development was the result of lots of undercover research work undertaked during the war years. Its an important model design in the development of the UK bus.
