Bus Driver Experience Days - 2010 Preview

Northern Warwickshire Tourism has Celebrity Brochure Launch.
The
local authorities around the Nuneaton Bedworth and Northern Warwickshire areas
no longer have dedicated departments and people for promoting and supporting our
very important Tourism Business. But our local active Northern
Warwickshire Tourism Association now work hard in the area, and our surrounding
areas to develop and promote activities, services and local businesses to individuals, groups and others coming into or through our vast area.
Midland Red Coaches are active members of NWTA (Northern Warwickshire Tourism Association). On 23rd February it was the launch day for the NWTA's latest Brochure to promote the area, and we were having the launch at The Red Lion in Atherstone.
BBC's Liz Kershaw who has been a long standing supporter of our aims in Northern Warwickshire and its surroundings joined us for the day of the launch. The Midland Red D9 double decker bus picked up Liz from the nearby Atherstone Railway Station and on to The Red Lion Hotel for the Launch Ceremony. Pulling up at the front of the hotel, the bus caused quite a stir - it's been many-a-year since Midland Red buses pulled up in the main Watling Street road. Liz was greeted by Mayors of North Warwickshire and Nuneaton and Bedworth and Committee members of the NWTA.
Ann Prosser, Chairman of the NWTA welcomed everyone to the event, followed by various speaches from dignatories. Local business people and members of ours and our associate bordering tourism groups filled the room for a most successful event. The launch was recorded by BBC Radio and is being broadcast in parts over the following weeks by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire's Keith Wedgebury.

A right Corporate Day Out !
A recent Corporate hire gave the Midland Red D9 double decker one of the longest working days in recent times, and carried passengers from Holland, Belgium, Germany, France and Poland.
It started with an early morning pick up at a hotel in Birmingham city centre at 7am to collect our passengers to see their associate company plants in action.
First call was to the Redman Fisher factory in Bean Road, Tipton, opposite where the massive old Bean Industries plant was located. Bean Industries used to cast engineering parts for Midland Red for many years. Redman Fisher hosted a first class buffet breakfast for the delegates before they embarked on a detailed factory tour.
Second Call was to the world class Bromford Iron and Steel complex in West Bromwich. Delegates donned safety clothing for another factory tour.
After an intensive morning it was time for some leisure time, so it was off the The Black Country Museum - the perfect place to show off our rich industrial past. Our classic Midland Red D9 bus is part of that heritage too, and it was allowed inside the museum and on to the Bottle and Glass public house for lunch.
Then it was a mid afternoon departure for Joseph Ash Galvanisers in Bilston. This place was the hive of activity - it provides nearly all the safety motorway barriers and has extensive stocks of galvanised products.
The longest journey of the day followed, and a trip into the Ironbridge Gorge where the delegates' hotel was situated.

Ready for Take Off !
The last time we heard of a D9 bus "taking off" was on its test days in 1958 at MIRA (Motor Industry Research Association) at Lindley, near Nuneaton when the D9 was going through its paces before entering everyday service. As part of its testing it was taken at full speed over what is known as the "Belgian Pavement" and over a hill where the front wheels left the ground - but this time, even with the upper deck roof vent fully open, there was not enough lift to take off!
It was a rare sight indeed for those at Birmingham International Airport to look across and see a Midland Red D9 bus on the Runway Apron meeting VIP's from a plane.
After security checks we made our way airside with air handling escorts to await the arrival of the flight with our VIP passengers.
This was the return flight of some of the UK's biggest bus company Chief Engineers who had been away with ZF Powertrain, the West Midlands well known bus gearbox manufacturer.
The outward flight had seen the passengers travel from their hotel to the airport terminal on a shuttle in our unique Charabanc, so for some variety it was the Double Decker that collected them and took them along the perimeter road and back to their hotel. A special start and end to the Weekend.

BUS ADVERTISING NOW AVAILABLE
We have now introducing a new specialised service - ADVERTISING on our Classic Double Decker Buses.
Ordinary buses pass you by often without a second glance, but
everyone notices our famous double deckers. Advertising on our classic buses really
does attracts attention and we have both interior and
exterior positions available.
We can work from your own artwork or help arrange the designs and artwork for
you, we produce the adverts for you and then have
them fitted onto our vehicles and all for a very reasonable fee - in fact with
prices starting as low as a one-night credit card sized advert in the local
paper, per month ! Contracts vary in length from a month to 24 months. The
longer the period, the lower the monthly charge.
Advertising Packages can include unique bus hire opportunities which we
seriously recommend - so the bus can
go where you want to use it or promote your campaign. You may like to use
the bus on the launch day of your new advertising campaign or perhaps have the
bus parked in a location or locations where your prospective customers pass
by.

CIVIC VISIT on VINTAGE LEYLAND BUS
Civic
Dignitaries from the Midlands area had a treat in store when they spent a day as
guests of North Warwickshire Borough Council recently. Our Vintage Leyland
Double Decker bus provided a comprehensive tour of the area, starting in
Atherstone town centre and visiting a local Garden Centre, an Abbey, a
Stately Home, the old coaching town of Coleshill, plus a conducted tour of the
modern BMW plant at Hams Hall.

TELEVISION & FILM SHOOTS
Our
Vintage bus and coach fleet are super for featuring in the creation of nostalgic
scenes in Advertising, TV shoots and film productions. Our staff are experienced
and patient and are accustomed to prolonged "shoots". Our
vehicles can be made available anywhere on UK mainland. We can also
arrange to provide vehicles for "terminal" shots too. Ask us for
details. WHEELS / Midland Red Coaches have also provided 'props' for
television programmes. Peak Practice have used model buses and coaches provided
by us. We also featured in a BBC magazine as suppliers of old British
Telephones of many different types and styles, as well of course the bus props -

PARK & RIDE SERVICES
WHEELS / Midland Red Coaches can provide professional Park & Ride services. We can provide classic buses to run to your specification, or we can organise timetables, provide Inspectors, Radio Control to each vehicle for efficient operation, design liveries and publicity to promote and easily identify the service. And it goes as standard that our staff have smart uniforms and are "Welcome Host" trained - ensuring customers get a complete and professional service. RAIL REPLACEMENT SERVICES
We have
a range of buses and other coaches with luggage storage which are
suited to Railway Replacement Services. We can respond at short notice to fill
the needs of urgent replacement buses and coaches for railway emergencies and
for pre-planned railway engineering works where road transport is needed.
TOURIST INDUSTRY SERVICES.
Vintage buses and classic coaches are a bit hit with visitors and incoming
tourists. We are experienced in operating with on-board guides, and most of our vehicles
have PA sound systems. We are keen to be involved in the operation of Heritage
Bus Services as partners with Local Authorities and Tourist Boards.
Vintage buses and coaches from our Heritage fleet are most suitable for these services.
WHEELS / Midland Red Coaches also work with Hotels and can produce itineraries and excursions for
guests and also provide Hotel Transfers to and from Airports and Railway
Stations. As you would expect from a professional company - our
Drivers are "Welcome Host" trained and have smart uniforms.
We can also often provide vehicle with driver to help other bus operators in
times of acute shortage. We are experienced in Local Bus Services as well
as Coach Operations, although we normally have an operational radius of around
60 miles from start point. We will handle all bus and coach work, and we
can arrange all inclusive hotel ccommodation, food and entertainment and
admissions as necessary. We also work with other respected names in the
bus industry if your booking requires other types of coaches which we consider
more suit your needs. We will of course make you aware of any other companies
involvement in your travel plans, unless this is made in an emergency.
